Veteran Army Soldier Still Being Held On $200,000 Bond

Former Army Sgt Albert Granados [Case#2011CR2294] lawyer today entered no request for reduced bond. His privately retained lawyer Angela Marie O'Brien was replaced with another lawyer. The next Bond Reduction Hearing will be conducted on 11 Aug, 2011 at 1:30 pm in Superior Court. Mr. Granados is facing nine felony counts [First charge: Murder 1- Extreme Indifference], two misdemeanor counts and still remains incarcerated. The first charge if convicted carries a minimum prison sentence of 8 years to 24 years.

When arrested on 7 July his First Appearance was before Judge Regina Marie Walker by television conference. The first Hearing on Advisement was held before Judge Scott A Sells on 14 July, 2011, the accused being present and the bond reduction was carried forward until 21 July.

Mr. Granados is a former member of the 4th Infantry Division Fort Carson, Colorado and served two and one half tours of Iraq. He has previously worked with the Special Forces, DEA, CIA and was a member of the Colombian Army. Mr Granados has duel citizenship in both the United States and Columbia. Service in the US Army includes Fort Carson, Colorado, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Italy and Iraq. His extended family lives in New York, Florida and Columbia.

Volunteers continue search for man missing at Harding Lake

FAIRBANKS — Ten agonizing days — since Patrick Hunsberger went missing. Seven days — since the official search was called off. “Until we find him” — the amount of time volunteers vow to spend looking for his body. Hunsberger, 25, headed onto Harding Lake on his personal watercraft in the early morning hours of July 4, alone and without a life jacket. He never returned. Though his watercraft was found floating near shore, Hunsberger was nowhere to be found and his friends, fearing the worst, called authorities. Troopers searched the lake extensively, using aircraft, boats and dogs, a dive team from Fort Wainwright, state parks rangers and members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. After three days of searching failed to find any trace of Hunsberger, the effort was halted and Hunsberger is presumed to have drowned. “In the Native culture, you don’t stop until the body is found,” Dave Hunsberger, Patrick’s father said. Patrick’s mother, Vera, is from Galena, a village on the Yukon River 270 miles west of Fairbanks, and members of her community as well as volunteers from across the Interior are joining the effort to find Patrick’s remains. A picnic table under a green tarp serves as command post. A large map of the lake and a computer showing the GPS coordinates of previously searched areas jostle for space with a bottle of Tums antacid, two-way radios and cigarette packs. In the middle of the table sits several large photos of Patrick, a handsome young man with a devilish smile. Several tents nearby hold supplies donated by various organizations, and items used to drag the water lie neatly laid out on the grass behind. A group of volunteers spread out as they search the shoreline on foot, passing a boat motoring into the small harbor where the command post sits. “We’ve only got three boats right now and two of those aren’t doing so well. We could use some more boats,” said Noranell Duncan, the unofficial head of operation. “We have volunteers but no way to get them out there,” she said, waving one hand toward the lake while wearily rubbing her face with the other. Pam Cleever, another search organizer, holds a clipboard used to keep track of volunteers. “This checkpoint is always manned when there are boats out there. We never leave anyone solo,” said Cleever. “We never leave walkers alone either: We keep lists and use the buddy system.” The command post will most likely have to be manned 24 hours per day now, said Cleever, because people not involved in the search have been wandering in and stealing supplies. Search efforts have also been hampered by weekend crowds, cruising through the search areas on boats and jets skis, but Harding Lake homeowners have been very helpful, said Duncan. The search has been joined by people from all walks of life, many of whom knew Hunsberger and many who didn’t. “We have family, relatives, friends and people from the villages. People from Northern Power Sports (where Patrick worked) have been out here every night. We have people from Triple A Moving Company, the Tetlin Search and Rescue Crew, villages on the Yukon, and people from California and Florida,” said Dave. “It’s just been fantastic how everyone’s coming out.” “Tanana Chiefs Conference, Fairbanks Native Association and Doyon have been a big help with supplies and volunteers” said Duncan, summing up the outpouring of support. “The Interior is really kicking butt right now.”

NOTE: I met Patrick Hunsberger several months ago and although I have ran into over the past few months we never really talked just simply exchanged hello's. I had the privilege of partying with him one night and sharing a cab with him. At the end of the night I gave him $10 bucks for a cab fare because he had no money. Guy always had a smile on his face and love being the center of attention. Friendly would be the best word to describe him. I hope they find him so his family can get some closure.

HANGING FROM THE CEILING

Thank you Fairbanks Grizzlies for the most inspirational season in our four year franchise history. A lot of people wrote our team off at the beginning of the season but with the help of our fans (community) and some financial backing from some very special people we overcame some adversity to finish this season making the playoffs for the 3rd season in a row. This season hasn't always been pretty with some off the field issues that were not planned for and some that maybe could of been handle a little differently. On the field we had a bunch of talented yet unique players that bonded with a community that help contribute to what forever will be known as THE STREAK. These young men came from all over the lower 48 and even Canada this past season to practice what one man preached 1-0 everyday and every game. It takes a lot to buy into someone's system because not every man fits the part. Some took their talents to South Beach like Lebron but yet those who remained gave us everything on that field and play with a conviction of the heart. Then there were others who sacrifice the body for a game they loved through injury yes they too left but were not forgotten. Thank you! This past season truly has been a humbling experience for all of us. We all have grown together and stuck together through it all. Thank you everyone no matter how small or big your role was in making this a memorable past season. But one questions burns inside me knowing what you know now if you had to do it all over again would you be all in? That question is been on my mind the past few days so with that I will let it go. God, be with our players and coaching staff as they travel to their destinations wherever that may be. Go Grizzlies!

WHY DO WE HURT THE ONE'S WE LOVE?

It happens all to often. Man serves in military. Man goes off to war. Man leaves behind family to go fight for you and me. Man defends and protects. Man comes home to his family a changed person. It's a sad reality that our soldiers our coming back suffering from PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder) from the experiences they have lived through during their visit to a war zone. They are coming home committing acts of violence against the people they are suppose to love and cherish their own family. When did man's family become the enemy? The home is not the battlefield but a place of love. Whether one can use PTSD as an actual excuse or not depends on a case by case bases. Regardless of the situation harming an individual is wrong. That includes the death penalty. When did Man become bigger than God? In the end or the bigger picture Man will be accountable for his wrong doings here on earth with the Man above. Who are we to judge? In my lifetime I've been taught or brought up to believe that my actions whether they are good or bad that I will ultimately be accountable for those actions. I know what wrong and right is. I know that if I tried to kill someone with my own hands what I will be facing in the terms of law enforcement. So what is the excuse? There isn't one!

Former Fort Carson Soldier Accused of Attempted Murder

A former Fort Carson Soldier Albert Granados, age 45, who was formerly with the 4th ID and now a civilian is in custody and accused of attempted murder, a class one felony and three other counts including sexual assault. Maximum sentence if convicted is life in prison. His bond was set at $200,000 because of the charges and him being considered a flight risk.

Mr. Granados attempted to flee from police on 7 July and was apprehended at the Lock-n-Store facility located off 8th Street in Colorado Springs, Colorado when he allegedly attempted to retrieve survival gear from a storage unit. He was tasered while resisting arrest at the facility and taken into custody by Colorado city police.

City police removed several weapons from his residence including two AR-15's, a sniper rifle, two 9mm pistols, a modified 12 gauge Mossberg shotgun, ammunition in military style containers and body armor. City detectives also removed several bags of evidence from his residence. When arrested a 9mm loaded Beretta was recovered from his vehicle seat.

Mr. Granados has at least three documented cases of domestic violence against a spouse, threatening another family member with death and in the past stated in a police report he would shoot all reality personnel, police, fire or rescue officials who tried to sell him residence. While still in the military at Fort Carson he threatened an under-aged family member with a weapon to his head and military police became involved.

Mr. Granados was a 13 year member of the United States Army, served three tours in Iraq, is an honorably discharged disabled veteran and formerly a member of the Colombian Army. He holds dual citizenship in the United States and Columbia. A second hearing date has been set for 14 July, 2011 in superior court Colorado Springs, Colorado. The hearing may be restricted to family members if deemed necessary by court officials.

TRUE AMERICAN SOLDIER

It's not everyday you get to meet a to meet a true American soldier. In every community around the United States and around the world there are people protecting all of us from dangers abroad. That would be the American soldier. They might be in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Reserves, National Guard and etc. There are so many stories of bravery, heros and inspirational things. Likely those stories sometimes brings us joy, pain, tears, anguish, happiness and every other descriptional word in the dictionary. But what about the forgotten American soldier. The one who comes back from Iraq, arrives via a plane on American soil, not to cheers but laughter and mockery. No one knows his story or his plight in life. He walks through crowds with a noticable limp, his left eye is completely shut due to the fact he lost his eye, a scar all the way from his groin area up to the middle of his chest due to operations to remove shrapnel, noticable scars and deformities over his body. He walks through the crowd with a sense of pride, humility and yet the crowd still laughs at him. Don't they know his story. A discharged American War Veteran from the Marines coming back to nothing, no money, no place to live, no healthcare for his injuries and yet if he could do it all over again he would be right back over in Iraq or Afghanistan fighting for you and me. He doesn't have that option anymore like many war Veterans discharged due to their injuries. He like others has to wait for a system the VA healthcare system to take care of him until then he is own his own. What is he suppose to do now? Still walking through that crowd thinking about the other Brothers who he has lost in war over in Iraq, "Don't these people know I like others are putting our effin lives on the line everyday?". They continue to laugh as he limps through the crowd. It is such an American tragedy or injustice that people look upon other people without knowing their story judging them without merit. The American soldier finds himself living on the beach waiting for for a VA appointment that won't be for a week to look at his left eye. He says to himself, "All I want is my eye back!". Finally after two days of living on the beach the local sheriff finds him and tells him that he can't live on the beach anymore. He tells the sheriff his story about his plight in life now. It brings the sheriff to tears because he was once an Amercian soldier. The sheriff thanks him for his service to our country and he says to the sheriff, "Don't thank me for my service thank my Brothers the over 4,000 who die fighting for you and me.". The homeless American soldier leaves the beach and finds his way to a Casino. He hasn't ate in over two days. He walks through the crowd people chuckle, stare or move out of his way until he comes upon a young man. He stops and with a smile on his face says, "How are you? Where are you from?". The young man responds, "ALASKA and I'm doing wonderful and you?". The American soldier asks the young man if he could sit at his table. He tells him his plight in life now. The young man, who happens to be me, listens to his story. It the same story I've been telling all along. The American soldier has so much pride, he laughs and despite everything that has happen to him he still wants to go back to fight for you and me. I give him $20 bucks to goto the all you can eat buffet where he tells me he will camp out. He thanks me and tells me that he loves me. Off he limps back into that same crowd out of my life they still don't know his story, BUT I DO! There are so many War Veterans who have been discharged from military service who have falling through the cracks of the VA healthcare system. The military's motto, "Hurry up and wait" should never apply to these young men or women who fight in these wars for you and me. They should be taken care of before they are discharged from service to ensure that until they are able to get back on their feet they will be taken care of like other military members who are still active military. Thank you those who have lost your life serving this country, thank you those who are still fighting for you and me and GOD BLESS AMERICA the land of the free AND HOME OF THE BRAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!
